MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, November 2025 / — Australian author and historian Anita Selzer has launched her official website, offering readers a new way to explore her books, research and current projects. The site, which went live in November 2025, brings together information about Selzer’s writing and the themes that have shaped much of her work, including women’s history, art and cultural storytelling.
Selzer has written extensively about women whose stories have often received limited attention in traditional historical accounts. Her books combine historical research with narrative writing, examining the lives and achievements of women across different eras and cultural contexts.
Among her most recognised works is The Female Gaze in Art and Photography, an award-winning book that explores how women artists and photographers interpret the world through their own perspectives. The book highlights the work of contemporary artists from around the world and considers how the concept of the “female gaze” offers a different lens through which to understand visual culture. The book has received multiple international awards and recognition within the arts and publishing communities.
Selzer later expanded the project with The Female Gaze in Art and Photography: Volume Two, which looks at influential women artists from earlier generations whose work helped shape the development of visual culture.
She is also the author of I Am Sasha, a historical narrative based on the wartime experiences of her father during the Holocaust. The book recounts the story of a Jewish teenager who survived Nazi persecution after his mother disguised him as a girl in order to avoid detection. The work was shortlisted for the New South Wales Premier’s History Awards in 2019.
Selzer has written several other books exploring women’s lives and history, including I Am Woman, Reframing Beauty, Educating Women in Australia: From the Convict Era to the 1920s, and Governors’ Wives in Colonial Australia.
Her newly launched website provides an overview of these publications, along with background on her research and updates about her ongoing work documenting women’s contributions to art, culture and society.

About the Author
Anita Selzer is an Australian author whose work explores overlooked stories of women in history, art and culture. She holds a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in History, a Diploma of Education, a Master’s degree in Education, a PhD in Education and a Graduate Diploma in Women’s Studies. Before becoming a full-time writer, she taught English and Politics and later worked as an Executive Officer in Women’s Affairs in the Victorian Premier’s Department.
